From Wounds to Wisdom
Registration Open: Spring Cohort February 18th-April 22nd! Remembering MLK's Soul Force and starting place of Love.
“Only through an inner spiritual transformation do we gain the strength to fight vigorously the evils of the world in a humble and loving spirit.”
― Martin Luther King Jr., Strength to Love
“Dwelling deep within all our souls is this undeniable, inexhaustible wellspring of love, wisdom, and goodness. If we can’t uncover and see this essential purity in ourselves, then everyone who we see is ugly, limited, and not measuring up.” ~Father Greg Boyle, The Whole Language, 29.
In Father Greg Boyle’s book, The Whole Language, he shares that they never tell the homies at Homeboy Industries, “We believe you can change,’ but rather, ‘We know you can heal.’” (25). He continues with the above quote, emphasizing over and over that this is God’s posture toward us, one of utter ‘unshakable love’.
This God, who is in our midst, rejoicing over us with gladness and renewing us with love (Zephaniah 3:17 NRSV).
Boyle continues, “Something liberating happens when modifying our behavior ceases to be our first priority. Mystical love accepts with peace and isn’t on the hunt for things to criticize (45).”
In honor of MLK Jr Day today, I remember that it is this love, this Soul Force that Martin Luther King Jr emphasized, that overturns systemized and personal racism through non-violence. Love is at the center of non-violence, it is not limited to personal growth. Reesheda Graham-Washington and Shawn Casselberry explain that soul force “transforms communities and social systems. Soul force creates an outward ripple effect, changing us and changing our world simultaneously.”
Yet we start with Love, in the mystical loving heart of God. Much of the work of soul care is not about changing behavior but transformation, it’s tuning into God with us, offering our yes of consent, clearing the clutter, cleaning the windows so we can more clearly receive and refract the Light. We may have deep wounds that affect our ability to see and receive, but the wisdom, the Light is always there.
This year, I want to invite you to approach change in a new way, not to fix or solve, but to fall in love, to encounter Love in a more profound way.
As we dwell in Love, we are able to see our wounds from a grounded place, have the courage and hope to navigate the seemingly complex and circuitous journey of healing, and gain wisdom from the Source of Wisdom that compels and equips us to live in a different way.
Upcoming 2025 Events:
From Wounds to Wisdom: February 18th-April 22nd
Often in the New Year, we desire to make changes. Yet without abiding in Love, it is hard to address the inner narratives that drive our behavior. Starting in February, I will be leading From Wounds to Wisdom, this year inviting us to live and move from Love as we learn from our wounds and uncover what clouds our wisdom.
A journey of transformation, not just focused on behavior change:
9 (1-hour) Soul Care Groups: guided reflection and sharing in same triad
2 individual sessions
Weekly journal prompts & practices
Whether your addiction is to help others, to be busy, or to the adrenaline of the next thing, you will be invited to root yourself in your belovedness, and from that place, explore your motivations and the wounds that drive you.
I will lead you through some of the Twelve Steps, Ignatian Spiritual Exercises, Lectio Divina, guided imaginative exercises, body-based practices, and reflection questions. More info below.
